The Swiss Ramble: Football (soccer) finance blog
Apart from its name, there is much to admire about this independent, brilliantly-researched blog about the finances of the world’s biggest sport.
I guess, as the author is based in Switzerland, the name makes a little bit of sense, but it is in no way a ramble. Rather, it’s a focused, in-depth look at the financial side of soccer/football.
Most high-level journalists in the sport are not financially trained. This guy knows his stuff. He picks apart what the managers and owners say about their finances, and digs into their accounts and data to get the truth.
What I most admire is his attention to detail. Not only are there clear graphs and charts detailing what he’s talking about, but he also finds all the pertinent quotes from the players and clubs to illustrate each point.
No matter which of the major clubs you support, there’s probably coverage of them in his extensive archives. Even if you aren’t interested in the topic of the day (Arsenal’s probable transfer budget for the coming season, for example), it is compelling reading.
The Swiss Ramble is a superb, peerless blog.
