KickStarter.com: crowdsource funding for your next idea

What a fantastic idea! I love the fact that KickStarter is about helping other people as well as getting helped.

Here’s how it works. You can either list a project for funding, or follow the progress and offer funding for existing projects (you can do both too!).

It’s sort of a social network for funding creativity. There are rules about what kind of projects can and cannot be posted: in the main, they encourage the creative arts (movies, books, music, theater).

Pledges can be any amount above the minimum for the project. The exciting part is, if a project gets 100 percent or more of its requested funding, it MUST proceed.

Some projects have exceeded their targets massively as the crowd voices its approval.

If a project doesn’t reach its funding target, the entire pledged amount is no longer requested from pledged. It’s all-or nothing with KickStarter.com.

Well worth a visit, if only to browse, and dream! (My first idea didn’t make the cut, but you can bet I will be submitting plenty of others for consideration…)
